Today, I'd like to introduce Sangdomun Stone Wall Village, also known as Sangdomun Hanok Village, one of the quietest places in Sokcho.
Many visitors come to Sokcho to hike Seoraksan National Park. However, just before the entrance to the national park, there is a traditional village that many visitors simply pass by without knowing.
If you enjoy quiet places, traditional Korean houses, beautiful stone walls, and mountain scenery, this village is well worth visiting.

How to Get There & Accessibility
- By Bus: Take local bus No. 7 or 7-1 from Sokcho Express Bus Terminal or Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal and get off at the Sangdomun bus stop.
- By Car: The village is about 10–15 minutes from downtown Sokcho and only a few minutes from the entrance to Seoraksan National Park. Seoraksan B and C Parking Lots are about a 15-minute walk away.
- Admission: Free for all visitors.
What to See
A Traditional Village Near Seoraksan
Sangdomun Stone Wall Village is located just before the entrance to Seoraksan National Park. Behind the village, the beautiful peaks of Seoraksan create a wonderful backdrop, while Ssangcheon Stream flows in front, connecting the mountains to the East Sea.
Because of its convenient location, with the Seoraksan B and C Parking Lots about a 15-minute walk away, many hikers choose to stay here before or after visiting the national park.
Walk Through Beautiful Stone Walls
The stone walls are one of the most charming features of the village. Almost every street and small alley is lined with traditional stone walls decorated with poems, thoughtful messages, and green ivy.
One of my favorite photo spots is the area near the newly built hanok stay across from Have a Chill Time Café.

Many families have lived here for generations, helping preserve the village's traditional atmosphere. Some traditional homes operate as family-run guesthouses, offering visitors a quiet and authentic place to stay.
The village is also known for preserving the Sokcho Domun Folk Songs, an important part of the area's local cultural heritage.

Hakmujeong Pavilion and the Former Home of Oh Yun-hwan
Hakmujeong Pavilion was built in 1934 by Oh Yun-hwan, a local scholar, teacher, poet, and independence activist during the Japanese colonial period.
A natural spring near the pavilion has provided fresh mountain water to the village for generations, adding another layer of local history to this quiet area.
The Former Home of Oh Yun-hwan is only a short walk away. This traditional house is a designated cultural heritage site and offers another glimpse into the history of Sangdomun Village.
