Welcome to the first itinerary in my Sunny's Local Itinerary Series.
Over the past few weeks, I have introduced several of Sokcho's most popular attractions through individual blog posts. To make planning your trip easier, I have organized those destinations into three simple one-day itineraries.
This first route explores the southern side of Sokcho, combining Seoraksan National Park, Seorak Hyanggi-ro, and Sangdomun Stone Wall Village because they naturally connect with one another. Instead of returning to downtown after visiting Seoraksan, you can simply continue your journey on foot and enjoy three different experiences in one day.
If you enjoy nature, traditional Korean culture, and peaceful places away from the busy city center, this southern Sokcho route is one of the itineraries I recommend most.

How to Get to Seoraksan National Park from Sokcho
If you're traveling from Seoul, take an express bus to Sokcho.
You can get off at either Sokcho Express Bus Terminal or Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal.
From either terminal, simply take Bus No. 7 or Bus No. 7-1 to Seoraksan National Park.
The bus ride takes about 30–35 minutes, depending on which terminal you board from and traffic conditions.
During the day, buses generally run at relatively short intervals, although schedules can vary by time and day. Check the latest timetable at the terminal or bus stop before your trip.

Bus timetables are posted at both terminals, and bus stop announcements are generally provided in both Korean and English, making public transportation easier for international visitors.

Part 1: Southern Sokcho Nature & Heritage Route
Route: Seoraksan National Park → Seorak Hyanggi-ro → Sangdomun Stone Wall Village
Stop 1. Seoraksan National Park – Mountains, Temple and Cable Car Views
Recommended Time: About 3 Hours
Begin your day at Seoraksan National Park, one of Korea's most famous national parks.

Walk through Seorak Sogongwon, visit the historic Sinheungsa Temple, and ride the Seoraksan Cable Car to enjoy the spectacular scenery around Gwongeumseong Fortress.
The Seoraksan Cable Car is one of the most popular attractions in the park. The ride takes about 5 minutes one way, or about 10 minutes for a round trip. Depending on the number of visitors, cable cars may operate at intervals of approximately 5–15 minutes.
Seoraksan Cable Car tickets are 16,000 KRW for adults and 12,000 KRW for children for a round trip. Children are defined as ages 36 months through elementary school, while children under 36 months can ride free of charge.
Cable car operating hours are not fixed throughout the year. They vary depending on the season and weather conditions, and the official website posts the operating schedule one day in advance. Because strong winds or severe weather can temporarily stop operations, it is best to check the official Seoraksan Cable Car website before visiting.
The cable car operates on a same-day, on-site ticket basis, so advance reservations are not available.
The combination of mountains, temples, forests, and fresh air makes Seoraksan worth visiting in every season.

Stop 2. Seorak Hyanggi-ro – A Scenic Mountain Walking Trail Near Seoraksan
After visiting Seoraksan National Park, walk downhill for about 10 minutes to Seorak-dong B District, the main visitor area near the park entrance.
Seorak-dong has two main visitor areas, known as B District and C District. For many years, these areas have been the main tourism hub near Seoraksan, with large parking lots, hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and souvenir shops.
B District is located closest to the entrance of Seoraksan National Park and the park's main visitor facilities. Many visitors stop here to enjoy traditional Korean food before continuing their journey.
C District is located farther downhill, across the suspension bridge, and has become easier to access since the opening of Seorak Hyanggi-ro.
From B District, it takes only about 5 minutes on foot to reach Seorak Hyanggi-ro, a scenic mountain walking trail featuring a Skywalk and Suspension Bridge overlooking the valley.
The Suspension Bridge is one of the highlights of Seorak Hyanggi-ro. From the bridge, you can look down into the valley and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery while walking along the trail.
After enjoying the Skywalk and Suspension Bridge, continue walking downhill for about 15 minutes to reach Sangdomun Stone Wall Village.
The village also has several local restaurants and cafés, making it a pleasant place to enjoy a coffee break or a late lunch after exploring Seorak Hyanggi-ro.
Stop 3. Sangdomun Stone Wall Village – A Peaceful Traditional Korean Village
Recommended Time: 1–1.5 Hours
This quiet village is known for its traditional stone walls, peaceful atmosphere, and beautiful mountain backdrop.
Take your time walking through the alleys and visit:
- Hakmujeong Pavilion
- Former Home of Oh Yun-hwan
- Traditional stone-wall alleys
After exploring the village, you can enjoy a late lunch at one of the local restaurants nearby.
Several local restaurants serve traditional Korean dishes, making this a pleasant place to relax before returning to downtown Sokcho.

Returning to Downtown Sokcho
After lunch, walk to the nearby bus stop and take Bus No. 7 or Bus No. 7-1 back to downtown Sokcho.
The first afternoon bus from Seoraksan departs at 2:11 PM.
The last bus departs at 8:35 PM.
The complete timetable is posted at the bus stop near the entrance of Seoraksan National Park. Because bus schedules can change, check the latest timetable before returning to downtown Sokcho.
