Welcome to the final itinerary in my Sunny's Local Itinerary Series.
In Part 1, I introduced a peaceful route through the Southern Sokcho Nature & Heritage Route.
In Part 2, we explored the Central Sokcho Coast & Harbor Route.
This final itinerary introduces the Northern Sokcho Culture & Lake Route, where you can experience Sokcho's fishing harbor, local neighborhoods, beautiful bridges, and one of the city's most relaxing lakes.
Unlike the previous two routes, this itinerary focuses more on the daily life of Sokcho and the places that local residents enjoy throughout the year.

How to Get There
If you're traveling from Seoul, I recommend taking an express bus from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal and getting off at Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal.
For this northern Sokcho itinerary, the intercity terminal is a convenient starting point because it is close to Abai Village and the northern harbor area.
Many guesthouses are also located around Dongmyeong-dong, making this area a convenient place to stay if you'd like to explore the harbor and nearby attractions on foot.

Part 3 Route: Northern Sokcho Culture & Lake Route
Route: Abai Village → Dongmyeong Port & Yeonggeumjeong → Yeongrang Lake → Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market
Stop 1. Abai Village
Recommended Time: About 1 Hour
Begin your day by walking across Geumgang Bridge to Abai Village.
This small village was established by North Korean refugees during the Korean War and remains one of the most unique neighborhoods in Sokcho.
Many visitors enjoy riding the traditional Gaetbae Ferry, walking through the narrow streets, and trying local specialties such as Abai Sundae.
Although it is one of Sokcho's best-known attractions, the village still has a quiet and authentic atmosphere.

Stop 2. Dongmyeong Port & Yeonggeumjeong Pavilion
Recommended Time: About 2–3 Hours
After returning across Geumgang Bridge, continue your walk around Dongmyeong Port.

This is one of Sokcho's working fishing harbors, where you can watch fishing boats, local fishermen, and the everyday rhythm of the city.
Near the harbor, you'll also see the Sokcho Port Domestic Passenger Terminal and the Sokcho Port International Cruise Terminal.
When an international cruise ship arrives, many visitors enjoy walking across Seorak Bridge and Geumgang Bridge, taking in the harbor views along the way.

A round-trip walk across the two bridges takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and offers some of the best harbor views in the city.
Continue north to Yeonggeumjeong Pavilion, one of Sokcho's most famous coastal landmarks.

The sound of the waves, the rocky shoreline, and the small seafood restaurants nearby create a peaceful atmosphere that is quite different from the busy beaches.

Stop 3. Yeongrang Lake
Recommended Time: About 1.5–2 Hours
After visiting Yeonggeumjeong, I recommend taking a taxi to Yeongrang Lake.
Although the distance is not very far, you will already have spent several hours walking, so taking a taxi is a comfortable way to continue the itinerary. The ride usually takes less than 10 minutes.
Yeongrang Lake is one of the places where local residents come to relax.
The lakeside trail is popular for walking, jogging, and cycling.
Visitors can also rent bicycles, including family bikes, to explore the lake at a comfortable pace.
In spring, cherry blossoms surround the lake, and the annual cherry blossom festival attracts many visitors.
Near the lake, Yeongrang Lake Resort has a large outdoor plaza where concerts and local events are sometimes held.
There is also a traditional Korean archery range nearby.
Walking the full lakeside trail takes about 1.5 hours, and each season offers a different view.

Optional Stop. Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market
If you still have time after visiting Yeongrang Lake, consider ending your day at the Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market.
It is a short taxi ride from the lake and is one of the best places to enjoy fresh seafood and local snacks.
During my visits, I often notice many tour groups arriving in the evening, while individual travelers enjoy dinner before returning to their accommodations or catching an evening bus back to Seoul.

Local Tips
This itinerary is ideal if you'd like to experience a different side of Sokcho.
Instead of focusing on mountains or beaches, you'll discover the city's fishing harbor, local neighborhoods, peaceful lakeside scenery, and traditional market.
If you're staying overnight, Dongmyeong-dong has many guesthouses within walking distance of the harbor, making it a convenient base for exploring northern Sokcho.
